Ethnographic interviews for the Bavarian Forest National Park

On the 14th of January a new permanent exhibition opened it's doors at the visitor centre of the Bavarian Forest National Park, the "Hans-Eisenmann-Haus". It is located roughly 200 kilometres north-east of Munich in Neuschönau. The visitor centre is the the starting point to exoplore Germany's longest standing National Park.

In 2010 the park celebrated it's 40th anniversary - and on this occasion the permanent exhibition in the "Hans Eisenmann-Haus" was renewed completely. The HEH commissioned Ralf Bücheler and Johannes Rosenstein to conduct eight ethnographic interviews with people from the region. The essence of these conversations is now part of the exhibition.

The Royal Filmmakers were responsible for conducting, filming and editing of the interviews. We also prepared the clips for presentation in the exhibition and added subtitles in German, English and Czech.

Wendekreis des Schafs - Tropic of Sheep (sysnopsis)

Barra was not what Marie had expected: She left the Czech republic for work and ended up on a tiny island in the Atlantic off Scotland. Now she lives here, on the edge of Europe, and starts to feel at home. Her boyfriend Andrej wants to go back.

Joan from London followed her parents - they started a hotel business on Barra, without any experience in the industry. On the island Joan seems to come to terms with a blow of fate long ago.

Crofter Iain has been working on the windy pastures of North Uist for all his life. Now it's time "to take a back seat". But there is one problem: Iains son is reluctant to take over. Iains daughter Joan would - and between lambing and sheep sales they make plans for an uncertain future. Around them: the vast, empty, and grand landscape of the islands.

Tales from the Western Isles off the Scottish northwest coast - a way of life many dream of, being rather different from a dream. A portrait of a place made of wind, clouds, water, and light.

Produced by FR Entertainment GmbH, commissioned by Telepool und Bayerischer Rundfunk. World sales: Telepool GmbH
